The end of July and the start of August have seen the Philippines suffering through non-stop rains. The last three days in particular, classes in all levels were suspended NATIONWIDE (this has never happened before, to my knowledge) as torrential rainfall opened over the country brought about by the monsoon rains of Typhoon Haikui.
To give you an idea of how much rainfall there was, here is a before-and-after photo of the Lagusnilad Pass in Manila City.
Landslides and immense flooding in several parts of the country rendered hundreds of thousands of people stranded. Roads were impassable. Heavy rains contraindicated air travel, even by helicopter. Fields and farms were drowned and ruined. Homes were destroyed. Lives were lost.
There is yet another typhoon heading in our direction, and a much bigger one at that. ( (Photo from weather.com under the cut.)Collapse )
Today (Thursday) is the first we have had in ten days to properly commence relief efforts to areas badly affected by the continuous rains. We are only starting to recover, and though we believe that the Filipino spirit is waterproof and we are strong enough to weather through this tragedy (bad pun not intended), any and all help from outside would be greatly appreciated all the same.
So please, do check out the community. You get something out of it, too, after all: fanwork made personally for you, and the chance to help others.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this.
